Recording Stays Local — The Centre Is a Management Layer

If the central server or the network link goes down, each site's NVR keeps recording locally. The command centre adds visibility and coordination on top; it doesn't become a single point of recording failure. For critical operations, server redundancy and failover can be designed in from the start.

What is HikCentral and how is it different from a normal NVR?
An NVR records cameras at one location. HikCentral is a video management platform (VMS) that sits above the NVRs — bringing multiple sites, hundreds of cameras, access control and alarms into one central interface, with user permissions, e-maps, video wall control and centralised event handling.
Can one command centre monitor several branches or sites?
Yes — that's the main purpose. Each site's cameras and systems connect back to the central platform over the network, so a chain business or developer can monitor every location from one control room.
What happens if the central server fails?
Recording continues locally at each site's NVR — the command centre is a management layer, not a single point of recording failure. For critical deployments, server redundancy and failover options can be designed in.
Do we need a video wall, or can operators use normal monitors?
It depends on scale. A small control room can run on multi-monitor workstations; larger operations with many cameras and operators benefit from a proper video wall with decoder-driven layouts. We size this to your operation, not upsell by default.
